Beyond the Genome: Unlocking Proteomic Discoveries with Quantum-Si’s Next-Generation Protein Sequencing™ Technology

Sequencing proteins and correlating amino acid changes to biological function is critical to advancing our understanding of human health and disease. While genomic and transcriptomic data offer insights into potential genetic predispositions and quantify changes in gene expression levels, they do not reflect the immediate changes or responses occurring at the protein level, which are essential for understanding cellular function, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions.

Next-Generation Protein Sequencing™ (NGPS), developed by Quantum-Si, is a transformative technology poised to bridge this gap by directly interrogating protein primary structure, post-translational modifications (PTMs), and protein isoform diversity. In this presentation, we discuss the expanding role of NGPS in advancing biological research by enabling any researcher to sequence proteins in their lab.

Quantum-Si’s protein sequencer, Platinum®, is a compact and affordable benchtop device that enables direct sequencing of proteins with single-amino-acid resolution using a simple workflow. We demonstrate Platinum’s sensitive detection of proteins and protein variants in diverse application areas, including detection of single amino acid polymorphisms and PTMs. We anticipate that NGPS will usher in an era of biological research in which information from the genome, transcriptome, and proteome are fully integrated and accessible, with profound implications for human health and disease.
