Manager/Senior Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Manager/Senior Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) who is ready for a challenge to join our team! As an EHS Manager, you will be a vital part of the emerging EHS team within the Facilities and EHS organization, helping to establish a positive culture of safety within a dynamically growing organization. 

Functions of this position will include assisting in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of enterprise wide EHS programs and policies, aiding sites with compliance within these plans, leading risk assessments and process improvements, and participating in the internal EHS Steering Committee and Site Safety Committees.   

 

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Act as a subject matter expert in the development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs and policies, including Risk Assessment Methodology, Safety Training and Management Programs, Laser Safety and Chemical Hygiene/Safety Plan.  
  • Manage the EHS Event Reporting Tool and conduct incident investigations. Ensure resulting risk assessments and corrective actions are implemented at the site or enterprise level.  
  • Lead a comprehensive risk assessment of each site’s chemical materials and waste streams and incorporate into a comprehensive Chemical Safety plan. 
  • Monitor regulatory requirements within each region we operate in, evaluate impacts associated with them through action plan development, prioritization, and execution. 
  • Develop and report EHS Dashboard of key performance metrics, compliance status, priorities, issues, and recommendations.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to represent EHS objectives related to the subject matter, such as site Lab Manager Forums, departmental process changes/project initiatives, and capital facilities projects.  
  • Execute projects as assigned. 
  • Partner with Facilities on an ongoing basis for lab operations and safety. Assist with facilities operations and site management. Perform inspections and audits within the organization and partner with lab occupants for corrections, improvements, enhancements. 
  • Implement process improvements which minimize risks, strengthens the overall EHS culture and builds the EHS brand of the team. 

 

Qualifications

  • Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (EHS Related, Engineering) plus 5+ years of EHS related experience or experience in manufacturing/R&D/medical device is preferred.    
  • Prior experience in implementing EHS regulations and internal EHS Standards with minimal assistance 
  • ASP, CSP, CIH or other professional certification is preferred.  
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred 
  • In depth knowledge of EHS laws, standards, codes, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with regulatory authorities, government officials and senior executives within the organization. 
  • Ability to identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace and swiftly implement corrective actions. 
  • Experience deploying and managing policy and procedures remotely while building cross-functional relationships within the organization.  
  • Ability to be nimble around shifting priorities and attend to the strategic while managing tactical activities.    
  • Professional communication skills with ability to effectively build relationships across all levels within the organization, internally and externally. 
  • Proficient use of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • This position can be located at either Branford CT or San Diego, CA site. 15 - 25% travel required.  

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):  

  • Experience with EHS Information Management Systems (Enablon, Intelex, Gensuite, Velocity EHS).  
  • Six Sigma, Lean, Root Cause Analysis experience. 

 

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $95,000 - $145,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, level of the position, an individual’s skills, knowledge and abilities, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all full-time employees are eligible for our discretionary bonus program and equity as part of the compensation package.
