Data Science Lead

Guilford, Connecticut, San Diego, California

Company Description

Quantum-Si is pioneering a new generation of technology to create the market of Next Generation Protein Sequencing (NGPS). Similar to Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS), which gave us a blueprint of what could happen by studying our DNA, NGPS enables an unbiased view of the proteome through improved scale, resolution, and sensitivity leading to better understanding of disease and improved general health.

We operate at the intersection of biochemistry, chemistry, hardware, molecular biology, photonics, semiconductor chips, and software with a goal to drive a digital transformation of a $44 billion dollar proteomics market.

Join us on the journey to transform healthcare, motivated by the idea that the products you work on will change the lives of millions of people around the world.

Job Description

We are looking for a leader of our Data Science team focused on building and maintaining a software platform and analyses to support the development of Quantum-Si’s single molecule protein sequencing instrument. The Data Science team focuses on the development of algorithms and analysis to support experimental efforts aimed at system characterization and improvement and quality control of instruments, chips, and reagents. Data scientists work closely with engineers and scientists to define the intended goal of experiments, design experiments, and develop analysis for those experiments. The team shares findings with the algorithm and bioinformatics teams to guide development of production software. Data scientists also develop and maintain dashboards to track the performance of instruments, chips, and reagents over time and mine existing data to optimize instrument settings. The lead role will be responsible for taking ownership over the development of the data science platforms, prioritizing incoming work, communicating status of the team’s work to stakeholders, making technical contributions, and managing a team of data scientists.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and maintain a platform for custom, extensible analysis of data generated by a single molecule protein sequencing platform
  • Develop and maintain databases of run metadata to correlate system and reagent performance to overall sequencing performance
  • Design and implement new algorithms to characterize and improve the performance of instrument subsystems and biochemistry
  • Create automated workflows for commonly requested analysis of experiments
  • Create rich visualizations for the end user that clearly and succinctly summarize analysis output
  • Collaborate closely with and communicate results to the algorithms and bioinformatics teams in order to guide development and improve software performance
  • Manage a team of data scientists

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, electrical engineering, or physical science
  • Minimum of 8 years post-graduate experience working in Data Science

  • Experience collaborating with scientists and engineers from a wide variety of disciplines to define new experiments and guide experimental design
  • Development of large software development project in Python or other major programming language
  • Previous technical management experience
  • Familiarity with Python-ML toolkit (pandas, numpy, sklearn, etc)
  • Experience creating visualizations of complex data output, with tools such as Plotly Dash
  • Software development practices of source control, code reviews, and testing
  • Experience working with either proteomics or genomics data

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):
