Job Description 

Senior Staff/Principal Scientist: Chemistry/Chemical Biology  

As the Senior Staff/Principal Scientist, you will be responsible for leading the research team of sample prep and protein library prep chemistry. You will work as part of the chemistry team in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. You will lead a group of chemical biologists of a diverse technical background to create a robust and highly efficient protein library prep workflow on Quantum-Si’s ground-breaking single-molecule protein sequencing platform. Your responsibilities include  

  • Build a strong research team through hiring and collaborations.  
  • Use your technical expertise to advise the team members on project execution. 
  • Brainstorm with the core chemistry team and apply new chemistry discoveries to library prep workflow.  
  • Develop analytical methods to establish the internal quality control of samples/libraries. 
  • Create innovative solutions to bottleneck problems in sample and library prep chemistry. 
  • Mentor team members on career development. 
  • Take the lead in generating sample prep/library prep protocols and transferring protocols to the product development team.  


Baseline skills/experiences/attributes: 

  • PhD in organic chemistry/bioorganic chemistry/chemical biology 10 - 12+ years post PhD experience. At least 5 years of experience in the chemical/pharmaceutical/biotech industry is preferred. 
  • Ability to lead a research team of diverse skill sets.  
  • Record of building a strong research team by hiring talented scientists and mentoring team members.  
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Record of collaborating with teams from different disciplines on creative projects.  
  • Strong track record of scientific publication/patent applications. 
  • In-depth knowledge of bioconjugation chemistry is required.  
  • Experience in proteomic research is highly desirable.  
  • In-depth knowledge of the biophysics of peptides, nucleic acids and proteins is highly desirable.  
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
